Tutorial Suggestions / Requests

We’re always open to suggestions for tutorials here at AUDIOTUTS. In fact tutorial writers often ask for ideas for what to write tutorials on! We can’t promise every suggestion will be used, but if you’d like to make a request/suggestion, then please do so here in the comments.

Hi Collis, congrats on the new site! :)

Personally I would like to see some Reason tutorials and maybe even articles on music production as a whole. Processes etc. I am a newbie to it all, so I would love Audiotuts to bring me something to help me get started. There is so much info on audio production on the net it gets confusing sometimes, it would be nice to have it all nicely explained on Audiotuts!

Hopefully some actual producers will comment on what they want, so you can get some proper feedback. But thats what I would be looking for to be honest :)

  2. Matt Radel says:

I know very little about audio, so I’ll be interested in anything you guys put out. It’d be nice to get brushed up on some terminology, maybe the differences between formats (and their uses) or even how to edit audio using different pieces of software (Audacity, GarageBand, SoundTrack Pro, etc.)

Anyway – I’m looking forward to you guys droppin’ some knowledge!

  3. Lazymonkey44 says:

This is not realy a Tutorial but i would be nie if you could do a list of top Garageband Alternatives for Linux and Windows.

  4. Steve Forbes says:

Oh, was just thinking. I would love to see some tuts based on Drum & Bass, its a kind of grey area at the moment as there is not much tuts on the net about it. :)

  5. spadez says:

When I think audio editing. I think mashups. Hook us up with a mash up tut. That would be awesome.

  6. VertigoSFX says:

This may be a little off from the tuts standard..because you guys usually just focus on programs and how to do stuff within them. I know what thing I have had trouble with working with a friend’s setup is getting a keyboard hooked up and picking up music within any preferred program.

Reason being is that my friend got a Roland keyboard awhile back with all the bells and whistles, user settings and all that and he’s made some great stuff. Unfortunately we can’t get it to recognize the custom settings whatever they’re called. Say if he uses a setting that makes it sound like an electric guitar and makes a cool tune out of it. Then when we get it connected to a program that does audio editing it only recognizes the keyboard notes but doesn’t actually recognize the electric guitar effect he put on the song.

Stuff like that would be nice, plus some nice tuts on like music creation with loops…the possibilities with this site are endless!

  7. Alex says:

Most audio work I do is usually cleaning audio (voice) for some project. Small stuff.

What are best practices for enhancing voice recordings (like equalizing sound levels,i.e. to compensate for variable distances from the microphone)?

How to properly remove echo (and how to avoid creating it).

    Thanks guys.

  8. Patrick says:

I would love some tutorials for FruityLoops, or FL studio as its called now

  9. Johnnie Tech says:

As far as audio tuts go I would also like to see what people want as I plan on writing a few. Mainly using Reason, Pgic Pro and also how to use some free alternatives such as reaper as well and audacity. Are you looking more for full production tutorials or tutorials on little things within the production such as the post production and effect work you can do. I’ll be checking back very often and working on some things for the site as soon as possible. Hopefully I can help some people in the confusing world of audio production.

  10. starseed says:

It would be great to see someting about sound/audio in film – with soundtrack pro for example.

  11. James Robertson says:

Perhaps tips on mastering different types of track e.g. delay and reverb on different hat types.

  12. hypermint says:

great site…I love all the TUTS sites. I have looked all over the internets and cant find a good tutorial on how to fix spiked audio. if anyone know how to do this in soundbooth or could put together a tut for this it would be great.

  13. Ecken says:

Definitely need some Logic Studio tutorials. Already interested in submitting some of my own, hopefully I can get them up here. @Steve Forbes, I totally agree. I myself am a drum & bass producer, ill do my best to come up with some relevant content for a tutorial. :-D

  14. nameless says:

Great new site, im looking forward to new tutorials! I would also love to see a tutorial on how to make drum n bass in Reason. Ive tried and it just doesnt sound right. Show me please! Will you use Reason in you tutorials? Thats the only program i have.

  15. I would like to know how to do that robo-style voice like daft punk.
Thanks and congrats for this new site.

  16. I have an old cartoon recorded in VHS and I have encoded to watch that on my computer but the sound is horrible. I always wanted a good re-mastering tut. The would be nice :)

  17. MarkusT says:

I would like to see how to make drum patterns, some basic rythms and how to sample (drum)sounds

  18. Tim Knight says:

Nice to have another Tut site!

I’m a video editor primarily, so would love to see any tut’s that would help in sweetening sound ready for broadcast. Noise reduction, adding ambient noise and using a compressor correctly to enhance voices. So whilst I’m good with pictures, I suck with sound ;-)

    Cheers!

  19. tom says:

cheap pro-sounding home recording and mixing!!!

  20. Mabel says:

H! I’m a music and audio technology student, and I’m so excited that this website’s up and about! I really hope to learn a whole lot more from the tutorials, and if you guys would be so helpful to teach some more interesting effects and some awesome tips about mixing, that’d be so helpful for me and my assignments!

Maybe another tutorial idea is how to use some audio programmes, giving other users an insight before they consider purchasing that software and using it for their own purposes. I, for one, have no clue how to use Reason (but I have Reason 4) or wonder if there’s an alternative to Fruity Loops for the Mac.

  21. Simon says:

Looking a tutorial to remove singing from a song to just leave the music! :)

  22. Adam says:

I would like to see maybe a tutorial for compression of kick and bass in cubase if pos!

  23. Lazymonkey44 says:

Is it possible to get some TUTs done with Free Software (Audacity) SOme of us are cheap! :)

  24. Jim Jones says:

The only tutorial I would be interested in, would be one about how to mix vocals, to get them to sound like pro vocals.
    Preferably in Reason or Audition.

  25. Ville Lope says:

I sent a short pitch about various tutorials I could do for Ableton Live, but that are also something that users of any other DAW could use.

I could also do a tutorial about harmonic mixing (DJing) and about keeping your digital DJ library in good order.

Waiting for those admins to get back at me – and eagerly waiting to get doing those tuts for you guys!

  26. Matthew says:

I would love to see some Reason tutorials as I don’t know how to work it at all and need some help.

  27. Ewout says:

Another great initiative! Good luck with the site!
    Don’t have a clue for a tutorial though :)

  28. raj says:

Love to see a demo on making programmed drums not sound so programmed. I’ve been composing with Reason and other tools for years, but most of my stuff ends up Moby-like – very ambient. If I use any drums at all, they sound way too mechanical. I only play guitar and synth, so I can’t “think” in programmed drums enough to change up the beat after a bars without it sounding ridiculous. I love a lot of the drum sounds from project bands like Delerium. As I understand it, the drum programmer is from Front 242. So it’d be cool seeing a tutorial on how to achieve the transitions over a few bars, not so much the drum sounds themselves. (Though that’d be nice too.)

  29. Johnnie Tech says:

    @Simon

Unfortunately all the tools that are available for that do a very poor job. When hearing your music it isn’t actually separated between vocals and music. They are all mixed together. If you remove the vocals, it’s not actually removing the vocals it’s removing a certain frequency within the music. When you remove the frequency, everything on that frequency gets removed as well. So to remove a whole vocal would remove a lot of the music as well.

  30. Rygar says:

Is It Possible to Submit a Tutorial ?

I’ve got these crazy beats in my head man! and I would enjoy describing them in tutorial form, the idea would be: “Piecing Together a Simple Song with Free Demos and Download from the Web”

  31. Ian M says:

I’d like to know how to convert music into 8-bit or 32-bit like old games consoles used to have.

  32. Leslie S. Russell says:

I’d love to see some info on Ardour, Hydrogen, or some of the other options available for linux.

  33. donnybaxter says:

How about a tutorial on using compression to tighten up audio in my productions? Why do i need to use compression? What are the proper procedures? Any other tips on finishing drum n bass tracks, or electronic tracks in general would be greatly appreciated. Also, links to any other online resources would be beneficial. There is never enough knowledge to be learned

A Good Start. After a long time, i’ve came across such website that dedicated to the Audio tutorials.

I suggest you should follow the same path as you’ll doing with the PSDTUTS and all.

You people can work on Tutorials for users of Fruityloops, SoundForge, Audition and others.

Making an MP3 Ringtone, Themes and understanding the tempos, if possible, beatmatching, different formats of audios, what is Normalization etc..

Its tough to get online help for the above suggested topics.

Looking forward for the best tutorials.

  35. WeZ says:

Some tutorials on wiring (or using wireless) a studio or dj setup using MIDI or OSC.
Are there alternatives to keep an overview etc…

    Thanks,

@vicky if you have a mac you can make ringtones in Garageband, however, not sure if this requires iphone…

  39. Logan says:

  43. Randy says:

I’d like to see a tutorial on doing sound production on the CHEAP. A lot of youtube videos’ sound SUCKS. Some tips that would result in little to no cash spent would be awesome.

Also maybe some tips for recording in the outdoors.

    Great site, thanks!

  44. spadez says:

It would be amazing to see a tut on getting a proper voice extract

  45. Justin says:

    @spadez

Were you looking to remove the vocal so you could use the instrumental or remove instrumental so you could make a mash-up with the vocal?

  46. red_star says:

tuts for qbase and nuendo please…

  47. mamjed says:

if the tutorials could be organized by the program they use, that would be soooo helpful. i havnt really done any of this stuff just some FLstudio and audio correction, but i want to get into it and i have no idea what program i should get.

  48. Beaubrunb says:

Hi Collis, What a great idea !

Personally I would like to see some Logic Pro tutorials, i really like this soft and my Mac !

  49. aloha says:

first of all, thanks for everything, your site is awesome!
i’d like to know if there is another way to have a “vynil pause-play” effect (i dont know if you see what i mean) without using turntables, so i can include it in some tracks?
    thanks a lot

  50. Wouter says:

Hello, I’m glad I found this site it seems to have a lot of potention.

Anyway I have this small request.
Would you guys be able to make a tutorial on setting up a mixer for a band? (let’s say a standard drum, lead guitar, rythm guitar, base guitar and vocals.)
And the stuff that comes around with it. The important things to remember and so on.

    That would be really nice.

    Grtz Wouter, Belgium
