At Audiotuts+ we irregularly put up a reader track for workshopping and critique (find out how to submit a track). This is how it works: you upload your song, and every week or so we’ll publish one here and step away from the podium. The floor is yours to talk about the track and how the artist can fix problems in and improve upon the mix and the song.
Thanks for your submissions everyone – and keep them coming. We have enough to publish two or three a week at the moment. Let me know if it gets too much.
This track has been submitted for your friendly, constructive criticism. They have put their track (and their heart and soul) in your hands to learn and get useful feedback.
- Do you enjoy the song or track itself? Does it have potential?
- Can the arrangement be improved?
- How did you find the mix? What would you do differently?
- What do you enjoy about the rhythm track? What can be done to improve it?
- Is the choice of instruments relevant and effective for the style/song?
- Are the lyrics (if any) effective? Does the style, arrangement and genre of the song suit them?
- Can you suggest any specific techniques that might improve the track?
- Do you have any other constructive feedback?

I like this piece. Don’t sell yourself short by saying you’re not that good. I have the following comments:
1. I prefer the soft, subtle parts, like the beginning. They sound very convincing to me
2. I find the transition to the big parts too abrupt. It could use just a little lead-in
3. There are some gaps in the big parts where e.g. horns could be more legato to sound more natural. The legato in the softer parts is nice
Overall I say well done.
If you yourself don’t think it’s good, i wonder why that is :
Is it because of the unrealistic GPO-like sounds? If so, you can over time upgrade your toolkit to better libraries, like LASS, East West, VSL, Vitous,.. etc.
Is it because you think the melody and harmony aren’t good? I think they are very good. I especially like the melodic scoring (call it thematic if you will) and also the few counterpoint phrases we were well placed imo.
Like the commenter above, I also prefer the delicate parts over the glorious parts, but eventually that is up to you to score to those emotions you want the listener to feel.
Overall i was well surprised by the musical quality of this piece, and i’d say you definitely are able to score games at this point in time, or score tv or film in the future, even more so with better quality libraries.
Great stuff! I’d agree with the other two comments about the louder sections. If you do want to keep that vibe, I’d suggest bringing up the low end (bass & cello, maybe low brass?). IMO, the snare was a little distracting, and might sound better a little bit lower in the mix.
It definitely would be at home in a film score, keep up the good work!
I enjoyed the melody a lot. Wow.
I would say that it would be nice to have a longer lead-in to the louder parts, possibly a longer cymbal roll, a tension building sequence, or something else.
I like the way the song fades from the louder section to the softer section at 1:14. Rather than end the whole song with just a cymbal splash, I think it would sound better if you made the track end with something similar to that transition at 1:14. It might make for a much more satisfying ending.
Overall, the composition and the instruments sound great to me. Also I’d advise you to not make a habit of saying you’re not good at music, because you are good.
I think its an excellent piece and the parts that seem kind of abrupt actually make the piece what it is. Its different and that’s cool with me!
i’m with the above. keep moving in this direction and i think you’ll start saying you think it’s good
I’m dying to download this..
