Recently we posted about our new weekly feature, Workshops. This is how it works: you upload your tracks, and each week we publish one here and step away from the podium. The floor is yours to talk about the track and how the artist can fix problems in and improve upon the mix and the song. Here's our fourth, On Your Side by Brannon Hedgcoth.
There are a couple of rules:
- Friendly, constructive criticism. We’re talking about people’s creative work, and anyone who is destructive and offensive will find their comments deleted — if they slip through moderation, let’s just hope we can catch them before the artist comes around to see your feedback. Negative constructive criticism is welcome. Since we’re only weeding out the offensive stuff, you only get one shot — if you use the comment box to insult people, you’ll find yourself unable to comment at AUDIOTUTS again.
- These comment threads can get pretty darn long. Have a quick read-through of the feedback that’s already been given, and try not to double-up too much.
Easy rules for civilized people to follow.

The clarity of this recording is no match for the boldness of the musicians involved. Creates great work, like champs, too! The second verse just as much re-enforces the first, though the bridge more that follows makes up for it with a directed journey towards the climactic ending.
These guys have seriously good music from.

The song has great form and a good build. The small snippet of chorus at the beginning of the song helps to reinforce the hook. The break after the first chorus is good for the re-intro into the verse. The song may benefit from adding a harmony during the chorus to reinforce it. Maybe a third or even a fifth over top of it.
Overall the song is real tight

I let the experts handle the constructive criticism of your track. All I can say is MH MH mhmmm, a wonderful peace of work! A song that I would love to wake up to from my sweet sweet dreams.

Really nice recording! Very clean and clear. Nice sounding instruments and solid performances. About my only suggestion is that the lead vocal sounds a bit dry and up front to me, compared to both the instruments and the background harmony vocals. I like the lead vocal up front, but it feels like it does not blend quite right with the rest of the mix. Maybe a touch of reverb? Well done!
