At Audiotuts+ we irregularly put up a reader track for workshopping and critique (find out how to submit a track). This is how it works: you upload your song, and every couple of weeks we'll publish one here and step away from the podium. The floor is yours to talk about the track and how the artist can fix problems in and improve upon the mix and the song.
There are a couple of rules:
- Friendly, constructive criticism—we're talking about people's creative work. Destructive and offensive comments will not be published. Constructive criticism is welcome.
- These comment threads can get pretty darn long. Have a quick read-through of the feedback that's already been given, and try not to double-up too much.
Easy rules for civilized people to follow.

Nicely mixed generally. The panning at the very very beginning was a bit disorienting and I thought the headphones weren’t working properly. I liked the prog-rocky feel to this and felt very excited like I wanted to see the band in all their tacky glory as this played. The voice needed – something. Compression? It felt very thin and a bit too distant. It wasn’t the level in the mix. It needed a “fatness” and presence. But this had a great feel and I wanted to know where I might get (a slightly better mixed) album

Guitars are nice and sharp, but to me the rhythm section sounds rather small and powerless. Needs some bigger drum- and bass-sound IMO. Yet, the snare is somewhat too dominant (too loud?), but this could be put into perspective, if the rest of the rhythm section became fatter.

i kept thinking: “leave your fears behind, come with us and find, the pleasures of a journey to the…” but i show my age here. while i agree somewhat with the production-esque comments above (thump, fatness, etc.) on a positive spin note i would and the the ’snap’ of the changes and the ‘whack’ of the corners when the emphasis accelerated was done very well. while i know all of us would love to produce perfection on the level of quincy jones or many strings of names of excellent oarsmen, don’t forget the most important thing is to express, have fun and emote. we, i, the audience: often love music for inexplicable reasons. it’s not a laboratory. never stop.
