Open Mic: Which Reverb Plugins Do You Use?

This entry is part 6 of 13 in the Masterful Reverb: Everything You Need to Know Session
« PreviousNext »

Each week we open our mic to readers and lurkers alike to come out of the woodwork and tell us your thoughts and opinion, your experiences and mistakes, what you love and what you hate. We want to hear from you, and here’s your chance.

Reverb can make or break the mix. It can bring it to life, or drown it. Getting it right is an art that you perfect over years. Which reverb plugins do you use and recommend? What’s more important – the plugin or the technique?

logic reverb plugins are great enough. especially the space designer plugin. It’s awesome when you know how to use them

Logic Pro’s space designer is great. But not for all purposes.

With the space designer I have found it can’t really create huge (8sec or more) reverb tails that sustain very well unless you use a customer impulse responses. I got some great impulses by sampling Fruity Reverb in FL studio from my PC at its maximum length, though it doesn’t sound natural at all, it has a big effect on synth leads and pad sounds.

But I think the U-He Uhbik-A is a nice warm reverb great for more of your trance like sounds. Can creat a nice big atmosphere.

If you wave a lot of cash there is also the Lexicon Reverb plugins. Serious quality reverb plugins. May come at a cost to your CPU though.

I prefer the lexicon hall reverbs. Unbelievable sound and very versatile. Makes pianos and strings sound amazing! Sometimes I will be lazy an use a synths internal reverb but when I’m not lexicon is my go to!

    Hey!
I use 2C audio Aether, it’s really cool, it sounds professional and of course you can load your own impulse or use a “inf” time!

Space Designer in Logic pro and Traktor’s 12 Reverb from Native Instruments. I use them mainly for fx purposes. Then I also use the various reverbs that are built into some of the virtual instruments I use, like Omnisphere and MachFive 3.

    1. IRCAM Spat —> Awesome sounding, but a) not easy to adjust correctly and b) very CPU hungry

    2. Softube TSAR1 —> Very nice sound, very easy to adjust, doesn’t consume much and has nice presets!

Depending in if you wanna create a room around an instrument or if you wanna use the reverb as an effect there’s different plugins do the job best!

ValhallaShimmer from ValhallaDSP – it sounds awesome, it’s my favourite reverb plugin and I’ve got a lot of reverb plugins. I have never heard before such a good reverb, especially suited for those who like ambient, dark ambient…

    EchoBoy and SpaceEcho.

    Oxford Reverb

in my home studio i use cubase reverb plugin like reverence and roomworks, but sometimes waves Rverb is an alternate choice. But if you use logic, i think logic reverb plugin are very nice and better than cubase plugin :D

Depends on the project really, but my go-to reverbs are:

UAD-2 EMT250 (lovely, transparent-like reverb with delay and chorus)
Powercore Megaverb (rich, thick sounding reverb – I use it mostly for Plates)
Sonnox Reverb (very versatile in any sound design)
2C-Breeze – it’s 2C-Aether’s little brother (a lot more CPU friendly but with the same sound quality)
    Altiverb or WizooVerbW2 for IR’s
Soundtoys Echoboy (one of the most versatile plugins – can produce reverbs or incredible delays)
AudioDamage EOS – fantastic for looooong reverb tails

Other good reverbs I use occasionally:

    SSL X-Verb
    Lexicon PCM Reverb Bundle
    UAD RealVerb-Pro

The main 2 I’ve been using these days are the UAD Dreamverb and EMT 140. I can usually get what I’m after. I really like the sound quality and setting options with them.
