Audiotuts+ Quiz: Know Your Soft Synths

How well do you know your soft synths? Test your knowledge with this quiz that focuses on synths that come with popular DAWs.

  • Leonard Schwarz

So the ES2 is NOT subtractive? Well, what is it then?

  • John Rose

30% goes to show I don’t use synths. HAHAHA!

  • Remy

The ES2 does use subtractive synthesis, but not solely. It blends subtractive, FM, and wavetable synthesis.

Thanks for the correction, Leonard and Remy. I typed the wrong synth name in there, and it’s fixed now.

  • Sergiu

I love Audiotuts+ Quizes but this is not one of your best, it requires the use of multiple DAW’s which I find unnecessary, also I use Ableton which wasn’t referred here at all. Still 50% is pretty good.

Good points, Sergiu. It’s hard to get a good score with this one without some familiarity with multiple DAWs – or some Google skills. (Is that cheating?) I think you did really well. :)

Question #5 is bad: “Which of these synths uses six different types of synthesis?”. Answer is Thor but this may be Reactor too, because it’s huge modular beast with everything.

  • weareallhypocrites

The Sonar question is kind of misleading. Rapture does NOT ship with Sonar. Rapture LE comes with Sonar. small difference in name but big difference in functionality.

      Thanks for the clarification, weare!
