How about Ozzy Osbourne's No More Tears? It came after pretty bad Ultimate Sin and No Rest for the Wicked albums. It also gave him his first #1 single in Mama I'm Coming Home.

Personally I think one that deserves to be on that list is Duran Duran. Astronaut was a showcase for the bands original line up and turned me from an appreciater to a full fledged fan.

Tom Petty was nearing a dry spell during the mid to late 80s.. Although a few successful singles were helpful, a couple of the albums were awful. Anybody remember "Let Me Up, I've Had Enough"? Petty reclaimed his top spot with his (mostly) solo debut "Full Moon Fever".

The album launched Petty to superstar status. I'd call "Full Moon Fever" a comeback album.

RE: Miller

U2 Achtung Baby as a comeback album? Where's there to come back from? They were hardly in the wilderness for years on end, lost and on the verge of cultural irrelevance. Before Actung's release, there was Rattle and Hum, which wasn't as good as the record before that - the landmark Joshua Tree album - but it was successful relative to competitors, and yielded outstanding songs such as Desire, Angel of Harlem, When Love Comes to Town and All I Want is You. It's certainly better than most of their recent stuff.

Brian Wilson's "Smile" ought to be on this list ... it took him 37 years to finish his famous "lost" album, and it was worth the wait -- probably because the vast bulk of the material was written in 1966-67, when Wilson was at his creative peak. It could have been the best album of 1967, but instead it was the best album of 2004, and it put Wilson back in the public eye for the first time in many, many years.
