It also depends on what the user is used to...people who are coming from an MPC or hardware recording setup tend to like Reason because it's pretty much a studio rack in front of them, whereas people new to recording or switching from another software tend to like FLStudio.

Its all good - I just find more people, when faced with the choice of the two, go with FLS strictly for VST support. :)

Apologies for the assumption guys—it would probably have been better worded if I said Reason is more often used by non-electronica artists than FL. There's certainly no denying that the vast majority of musicians who are not into electronica will pick up Reason over Fruity Loops.

I have to agree with Nic, I know plenty of musicians in all genres who use Reason, and plenty others who use FL Studio. Honestly, the main difference between FL and Reason is Reason's steep learning curve, and better stock sounds. In FL Studio, you can get to making music right away, but, in my opinion, the stock sounds in FL Studio are quite lacking. Reason requires some training before you can start making music, but the stock sounds are better.

"Unlike other programs like Fruity Loops, Reason is used by musicians from all sorts of genres: folk artists, rockers, contemporary classicals and, of course, electronica artists."

That is a very, very bold statement

here's a really good package of instruments if you want to use Reason for making complete songs in all genres: http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1936 (Sonic Refill Gold) - they also make the Miroslav orchestral sounds in refill format.

i did a bunch of audio demos for the Gold actually.

Reason's great. If someone was starting out and was looking to make electronic music i would recommend them this host first. it's also by far the most fun to use.
