Not sure about the quality, but you can do this in Logic with the direction mixer.

Just send the channel to 2 busses, one with the mixer set to 0 (mono) and the other set to 2 (side)...you may have to use more than one side mixer for better results in cutting out the mono signal, but it def. works.

Great tutorials btw!

The great thing about M/S processing is that you don't even need plugins to achieve it!

Just use your minds and some routing in your DAW and you can convert stereo signals into M and S tracks.

Then you can apply plain old regular EQ and Compression on those tracks...

Hi Guys glad some of you are finding this useful... and yep there are other plug-ins out there that are M/S capable, this doesn't contain the definitive list so feel free to list any i didnt include.... Will try and take a look at the one you mentioned Mister Biggs ;)

And i was thinking about sound clips but as i wanted to use sections of whole tracks it proved to be difficult to find the right material without coming up against copyright issues to be honest... I'd suggest getting hold of demos of the software included and applying some M/S treatment to your own tracks to see if it works for you.

Hi Mo, Again another great tutorial and as it happens something I was looking into recently.

You mentioned that none of the plug-in were free or cheap. I came across one recently called DrMS which is available from mathewlane.com. It costs just over €30 and is a M/S processor. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to M/S processors so I'm not the best judge of how well it works but when I've used it to master and give a wider stereo image it seems to work quite well for me.

There is a demo available from the website so I was wondering if you could check it out and feedback your thoughts on it. Would be helpful for me and some of the other readers I'm sure.

Thanks
Mister. Biggs

Hello! This is an interesting tutorial. I've read before about mid/side eq-ing, but I haven't thought that it could be so useful in the mastering process. The most important thing I have learnt from this tutorial is about the way you can keep the lower frequencies in dead center. Too bad I don't own the plugin from Brainworx.
