One tutorial I would like to see (a bit off topic) is how to start out in sound engineering. I am already competent at dealing with the mixing etc. from school plays, and we are going to say be using outboards for the first time hopefully this year, but onto the tutorial idea, is how to get started in the sound engineer business. A lot of people I have asked simply say is go and volunteer at a thatre / church, but most either won't take you full stop, or have limits on age etc.

Glad you like the tut. More to follow.

I'm actually in the process of making an indie film (in between tours) and have lots of tips on location sound/miking and generally dealing with audio for picture. I'll write something on it soon.

Wow, great article.

I have been doing some live performances the last two years (learning from what our sound contractors / techie did), and after reading this, have now learn why they kept walking around.

Hope to see more like this in the future.

@Craigsnedeker: Typically you'd want to sync the video to separately recorded audio; the mics in video cameras aren't the best. If any of our tut writers want to do something on this...

@Dan: We're going to publishing more in this vein in the future.

Nice post, definitely quality information there.

Similar to above, I would like to see a tutorial for live recording in general, and how to get the best sound.

Nice!

Can someone write a tutorial on audio for video, you know, setting up a mic and how to get the best sound with a mic connected to a video camera?
