While I think every writer here would agree with the principle, it wouldn’t be a very good tutorial site if we just told readers to play around. All we do is give guidelines and teach people how to start achieving certain sounds, so they can learn more about what they want and how to get it. There are no hard and fast rules.

Yeah, all very nice technical reasons why the attack of a loud kick will result in the drop in others sounds and how you use this with release. But seriously, I’ve been workin with this stuff for years and though it’s sometimes useful to know why things do what they do, music creation is a art. My advice is not to go into a track trying to extract a certain sound, but play play play, until it sounds special. Tale care in effecting each area with subtlety and forget about how it works, then you get into the zone. Don’t overcomplicate it guys.

No offense taken, many who do use FL studio found this tutorial on gain pumping useful.

What parts are you finding difficult to understand ? or “blah blah blah”.

The article is directed towards uses of Fl Studio.

One of the worst tut of the site.A lot of Blah Blah Blah but nothing’s really explained about the routings and if you don’t use fruity loops & the play pack you can’t apply this to others DAWS only by reading the article…….people are looking for cross platform tuts!!!
I can do that too for 150 bucks.
Nothing personal mate keep on trying…

Another great article. Compression seems to be one of those things that I use a lot but don’t truly understand what it’s actually doing. Its rather a case of it it makes the sound better then it must be doing something good.
