You need to have the REX shared library extension installed. If you don't know if you do or not, it should be in /Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/Rex.

If it's not there, that's why the options are greyed out.

I have exactly the same problem as truce perkins... hasn't been a problem before, but have just re-installed our logic application to a different drive. Am currently frantically trying to sort it out as I have a whole bunch of projects that use rex2 files through the exs2r4

Mo Volans,
am a big fan of your work!
I have a problem getting my cut up Rex File into Logic.
Step 5 is where i am stuck.

The drop menu of the edit button from the EXS24 sampler where the instrument menu in the editor’s top left corner is, there are a few options, you choose ‘recycle convert’...well the whole drop box list is greyed out, & wont allow me to do anything.
I have tried ??

@ Mr Tunes ... its always hard to please everyone with these tuts but ive always tried to cover as many 3rd party instruments and plugs as possible and also specific DAWS and instruments such as Reason, Live, Logic and Cubase...

im pretty sure focusing on Kontakt or Battery would alienate just as many as focusing on any other app or instrument.

But def agree would be great to take a poll to see who is using what and im always happy to try and complete tuts on any subject or application ;)

@ JohnnieTech... the method your talking about is also a great way to slice loops but is not really related to this tutorial. its certainly an alternative but involves using raw audio and doesn't use the synthesis engine of the EXS24 or the ability to manipulate midi in conjunction with amplitude envelopes.

... there's no doubt it is faster but not really a replacement to this technique just an alternative.

@Mr. Tunes: I think no matter what, software tutorials are going to alienate certain readers. I tend to work with Reason 4, but I know that not everyone uses it. Still, I can hope that the techniques are still applicable in other DAWs.

That said, I'd like to see some focus on specific professional techniques that can be applied in any DAW as well. I have Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason, FL Studio, Cakewalk and a few other programs, so just kinda knowing how to apply techniques in each of those is nice. But if I had to choose, I'd love to see ProTools tutorials mainly because I find that it's more of the industry standard (although not always), but seeing generally applicable techniques is probably best.

I'll nag Joel and see if he's interested in doing a poll to see what DAW people are using these days.

Keep these tutorials coming. After switching to Logic this year I am taking in as much as I can and your tutorials have been infinitely helpful. I'm using Reason/Logic as well. Thanks.
