Thanks fdor this Mo, i do have one question though, when importing into Ableton i see there is a fair amount of swing applied to the Audio loops in the pack, did you use Logics groove templates or was it done by hand?
would be be able to explain this techniques please.

Many Thanks

This is one of the best tutorials I've seen yet! It would have been nice to see the loops used as fillers be made from scratch and see the processing used to make it all gel. Just goes to show what you can get from a few basic elements.

Great tut, although i think it is a little more involved when it comes to getting all the effects and processing right, thats the real art.

Would be good to hear what other people have done?

In your guide it says "Next on the list is a snare drum added to the third and fourth beats of every bar." Shouldn't it read SECOND and fourth?

@ewatch You can make your kick pump by using a good compression plugin. I use Ableton Live and I couldn't make my kicks pump like this tutorial sample with the built in compressor, for example. But with the Sonalksis SV-315 Mk2 compressor, I reproduced the effect easily.

You can download a trial at Sonalksis website. Give it a try.

Also, the "quality", or character of the sound sometimes is too relative. Some beautiful sounding snares may sit bland depending on your choice of kick, or clap. Sometimes a very simple sounding snare may provide quite a beautiful snap. I like to experiment with different pairs of clap/snare, changing their channel delay. For example, sometimes a delay of -4ms in the clap and a snare with 0ms may sound flat, but pushing the snare a bit forward, say, +2ms, and the sound may display the kind of snap I'm after. And off course, experimenting with a lot of different samples from CDs, etc.

I did not experiment with layering too much, but it's definetely not a requirement. For example, there's loads of house tracks where the kick is of a VERY simple tone, but sits beautiful in the mix context.

First of all, thank you! Great tutorial. Haven't seen one like this before and excellent for beginning house producers like me. I would like to seem more of this.

I really like your approach not using a drummachine. However. I imported the samples into Ultrabeat, recreated your beat arrangement, assigned each voice to its own auxilary channel. Turned of the oscillator, noise generator etc etc. But still I don't get the exact sound. How is that possible? Does ultrabeat effect the samples somehow?

I copied all settings of your "Low Cuts", Chan EQ, PTverb, Sampledelay, Compress , LinPhaseE, Adlimit, St-delay.

Playing the Snare in ultrabeat already sounds different! (yes with all the tweaksettings turned off) :S

The samples sound so awesome. The Kickdrum has a really good quality as well as really pumping sound.
I try to create my own kickdrums and so own by layering for example a 808 and 909 Kickdrum. But I don't get so good results like the samples from this tutorial.
As well as the snare or claps don't sound as good as these.
Is there a tutorial that describes how to create basic samples for personal use ?
