@ Eric, to be honest im not 100% sure a reverb effect can be 'cheesy' as its simply a process. There is no doubt that some verbs are of a better quality than others but it is really down to using the correct space at the correct time... but ive never heard of a reverb processor described as cheesy... maybe the material being put through them but not the effect ;)

as far as using presets, they are a good starting point but most of the time you will find you have to tweak things, this is to be expected and is actually going to help you achieve a more original sound... im not a huge fan of pre-sets in any plugin or device except when used as a guideline. Every piece of audio is different so its very unlikely that a pre set programmed using another signal is going to work for you 100%, in some cases you may need to program a patch from scratch. I'll be supplying some workshops on programing these different reverbs soon so this may help.

@ Craig.. as with many other tutorials ive done, this is generic info and can be applied to any plug-in. there are loads of different virtual reverb processors that are capable of creating these sounds. This is just an insight into how these various plug-ins work. It is not an advert for any particular plug or a tutorial for these specific bits of software. It should be easy to find alternatives you have access to. you really don't need the actual plug-ins used here... hope this helps clarify things a little.

Definitely some useful stuff there. My issue with all the various reverb plug-ins is that so many of them have a few good presets, but the rest are really cheesy and don't serve an actual useful purpose. Maybe it's just the type of music and sound that I'm usually working on, but I find myself either skipping over a patch or heavily modifying it just to make it usable.
